I am trying to learn myself how to program in python. I like Blender, so i was looking for some little bugs to fix or some old add-ons to port to the newer versions of blender. While scanning for a project I saw some pictures from much older Blender versions. On one of these pictures I saw a button in Blender called "Benchmark". I didn't know blender had that button, so i went searching for it in my Blender copy (2.70a). I couldn't find it. I searched on the internet for a Blender benchmark and i found some forum topics where people shared render times on a provided scene. You have to download this scene, open it in Blender, render it and post your cpu or gpu specs with your render time on the forum. In my opinion, it was time consuming and the gathered results where not very transparent. It should be possible to run benchmarks from inside Blender. The results should be in a central place where they can be shown in a clear overview. And you should be able to sent those result to that place from within Blender. This way you can easily compare cpu's and gpu's, but also compare different Blender (cycles) versions. The idea was born...
